This is a a super easy to make scarf that is really classic for fall. It is a Rice stitch which is now my new favorite stitch (It used to be a seed stitch). I made this scarf with a baby alpaca yarn but any chunky yarn will work. The key is to make this very long so that you can wrap it around your neck and still have some length to it. I made mine about 90″ long. I named it after one of my favorite clothing lines, because it seemed like it would be the perfect acessory for her clothes.
Eileen Scarf Pattern:
You will need 2-3 skeins of a chunky yarn with a guage of 3 stitches per inch on #11 US needles.
Cast on 22 stitches.
Pattern:
Row 1: K1, P1 across.
Row 2: Knit across.
Repeat pattern until you have your desired length, then add fringe into every other stitch all the way around the scarf. You will need about 1/4 of a skein for the fringe.

Be still my heart. This lovely blog shows up on my reader and I think it’s pictures of Piper in her christening dress. Alas. It’s a beautiful scarf to knit.
I’d rather see Piper.
I love this, it looks very cute.
Can you tell me if it rolls without the fringe around all borders?
The stitch will roll without the fringe added.
Thanks!
how wide is the peacock scarf? is it worked in long rows or short rows?? i’m confused! i wanted a scarf that’s about 8 inches wide and kinda long..but love this pattern!
I love the fringe. How long is each piece? What do you do to keep it from unraveling?
This is EXACTLY what I’m looking for. My ? is this: The yarn I want to use (this scarf will match a hat I’ve made) is Vanna yarn which is a worstered weight. Do you suggest I just use the pattern as is, perhaps adding some stitches for width – or do you think it would look better if I followed your pattern using two strands of yarn held together? I’d reapply appreciate your suggestions. I just found this site and it’s fantastic! Thanks for being here!!! sandi in snowy snowy Massachusetts – we’re running out of room as to where to put it all after it has been plowed. Great knitting weather.
Probably the first idea, I think it will be too bulky if you hold to strands of worsted weight yarn together. Thanks!
A scarf named after me?
Love the texture and the look of the fringe with this scarf. How long did you make the fringe? Thankyou so much again for sharing your talent and the generosity of another free pattern from you.
