Sweet & Simple Baby Quilt

Here is a free pattern for a super quick & easy baby quilt. I make this quilt all of the time in different fabric combinations for gifts. It works for both boys and girls ( and is great for those annoying friends who are keeping it a surprise). A star is so classic that everyone will just love it.

**Since this is the most popular post right now, I thought I would add a link into it for our latest contest. It has only 4 people who have entered so far and it is for a wonderful Needle felted Pin cushion kit! So add a comment and get a chance to win!

Basic Knitting Videos

We have been in the process of making a bunch of videos with Jeanette teaching lots of basics for Knitting & Quilting. We are planning on posting lots of these in the blog, starting with the most requested first. Here is a link to a set on basic knitting techniques that are currently on Expert Village.

Peaches

I had to post this video just for fun. It may be that I just think it is so cute because it is my good friends baby boy whom I adore. But it sure gives me a hankering for peaches. It is the first time he is trying them, and I guess they are a hit.

The Changing of the Season

Fall is finally coming , you can feel it in the air. I love it, it is my favorite season. So we have had to say a final goodbye to the Hollyhocks.

We have just harvested all of our seeds and will have them available this weekend if you would like some. Bring your own bag to carry them away with you. First come first serve until they are gone.

Here is the 50$ quilt! Jeanette is quilting it this weekend and the class starts next Saturday. If you want to sign up, hurry, because it is filling fast. Call the shop 801-484-5890 or stop by.

One of the best things about Fall is Halloween! It is my very favorite holiday. I am pulling out all of the decorations this week at the shop and at home. It may be a bit early, but I need to spread out the joy.

The State Fair

I went to the State Fair this weekend. The last time that I went, I was probably about 6 years old. It is definitely worth the trip to see the quilts on display( and the fried snickers bar, mmmmm). I was told that they had twice as many Quilts entered this year as last year, but to be honest, I thought there should be more. For how many people are active in this art in Utah there could be many more. So get those entries together for next year ladies!

The quilts that I did see were absolutely fabulous! The one above was made by Mary Buchanan who purchased the Botanika Block of the Month at our shop and came to Applique Addicts for most of last year to work on it. It is breathtaking, and deserving of the ribbon she won.

Here are a few more of my favorites, I hope you can see the artists name in the picture so that they receive credit for their work.

There is also an array of beautiful knit and crochet items, these 2 afgans below were my favorites.

I really had to restrain myself around the animals. I was seriously contemplating how I could manage a goat in my back yard. They were only $35 , you can barely buy dinner for that, let a lone a wonderful goat friend who will continually weed my garden for me. Okay, so I am crazy, no goat for me. But maybe a bunny? I was so close to pocketing this soft little guy below. But then I started picturing Henry and Leo chasing the poor creature around and around like they do with each other day after day. Oh well, maybe there is a farm in my future.

Posie Baby Hat

Check out this adorable new baby beanie! I think baby Piper will be sporting it soon. Are new fall classes are starting to fill and we are excited to watch all of the new fall merchandise come into the shop.  We are atrting a new weekly quilt called the 50$ quilt in a few weeks. It is a great opportunity for you to learn a bunch of different techniques to broaden your quilting horizons. After we run the class in the shop we will be offering an on-line version complete with instructional videos. So exciting! Look for it before the new year. Here is a sneak peak of one of the 50$ quilt blocks. If you live in Salt Lake and are interested , call quick, because it is filling up fast.

Dream of A Garden

After one of those days where nothing seems to go right, I needed some quilting therapy. I needed some sewing that required little thinking and just pure escape and relaxation. I needed to end the day with some success. I made the center for this new quilt called “Dream of a Garden” with all fabrics from Art Gallery. I have 2 more borders to add and then the top will be finished. Not bad for the end of a no good, horrible, very bad day. I just love it! I plan on whipping out the rest of this quilt by the weekend and cutting kits with the exact fabrics. One of the many reasons to love these fabulous fabrics is that the company produces a collection for one full year! I think that too many fabric companys move through collections too quickly. By the time you finish your quilt, you have to start a full on search of the universe to find a border from the same collection. For me, quilting is something to help you slow down in this crazy fast paced world. So I am very glad to see a fabric company that allows a little time for that. So if you need an easy quilting pick me up, watch for this kit , available very soon in the shop and for online ordering.
