Quick and Easy Baby Gifts #2 – Burp Cloths

Here’s installment number two of our “Quick and Easy Baby Gifts.”  My sister makes and sells these burp cloths down in Arizona and people go wild about them.  They are a great way to use up the scraps left from your various projects.

3 Washed Burp Cloths (I like the 6 ply Gerber Cloth Diapers)

3 Fat Eigths

Approximately 38″ of 3 differently colored ribbons, 5/8″ in width

Measure the center of the burp cloth to determine the size fabric you need to cover.  You want to cover the bulky part of the center of the cloth, including the seams down the center.  You fabric will be approximately 6″x20″, which should include an extra 2″ for the length to fold under.  Pin your fabric onto the cloth to secure.

Place your ribbon along the length of each side of your fabric, pinning every couple of inches and making certain to cover the raw edge of the fabric.  Tuck under about 1/2″ at each end and pin.

Stitch around the edge of the ribbon with matching thread, staying very close to the edge.  Backstitch at the end.

Stitch across the ends of your fabric last.  Use a zig-zag stitch or take advantage of some of the fancy stitches on your machine!
