On Our Porch

Even though all of the weather men (and women) predicted rain, it is just beautiful outside today. Hopefully the rest of this Memorial Day weekend will continue in the same fashion. We are hard at work, but have been taking frequent knitting breaks on our porch at Piper’s(mostly knitting breaks and little bit of work to be honest) . If you have been to our shop, you know that our porch is an extension of the shop. We have quilts & such on display outside, most of the year. Here are some of the lovelies that are out there right now, so you can feel like you are hanging out on the porch with us.

Jeanette would be very upset with me, if I did not have a picture of the Clematis included . She makes sure that everyone who comes in the shop has noticed how lovely they are. She is right they are stunning, so make sure you do not pass them by.

Whats next?

I think that we are having a little bit of a Christopher Cross moment here at Piper’s. We have gone a little bit crazy with the sailboat quilts, but they are so cute, who can stop? This one took 4 hours from start to finish (really!). Anyway , every woman I see is preganant , and they are all boys (except one very special girl), so there are many sailboat quilts that are needed.
So what is next? I have wanted to start Sue Spargo’s quilt “Gingergrove” for a while.

So I worked on the first few blocks a little and we are going to make this a new BOM. The books will be here in a few days and I have been cutting kits as I make the blocks. What do you think so far?

I think my colors will be a little bit diferent, but the same feel. I have some amazing pieces of wool that I have been hoarding, and they are finally coiming out for this project. If you are interested in this BOM and far away, we will be happy to ship. Just let us know! More to come, stay tuned.

Basting

We gave you just a sneak peak of the new Ski quilt that Jeanette is making. Well, it is almost finished and here is a pic! We always tell our customers to come and use our fence for basting their quilts. Come use ours or use your own and make your life easy with 505 . You can spray baste your quilt in a matter of minutes and your ready to roll. We love to hand quilt, and sometimes there is not enough time. We have to hang the quilt before all of the fabric is gone. When this is the case, we spray baste, and bind, and do the hand quilting after we retire the quilt from the shops walls. This is one of our very favorite products and the only spray adhesive approved by the Applique Society . So, just a little quilting and the binding and Voila, the Ski quilt will be hanging.

Cool New Tool

We just received a very cool new tool at the shop. I gave it to Jeanette and said make something wonderful, and of course she did.

This bag is knit entirely of I-cords, made with the Embellish-Knit .
FDor those of your who don’t know what I-Cord is, it is a knit cord, that is usually made on Double Pointed needles. This machine makes them for you, in a minute. The I-cord is SUPER chunky,so if your are knitting with it, your project is finished FAST. Plus the thickness makes this bag very sturdy, so it can hold your whole life (which is what I carry in my purse). The I cords that are made with this machine are great for a multitude of crafty projects, and kids love it!

Sneak Peak

Here is just a sneak peak at Jeanette’s new quilt! Can you guess what it is? The quilt is so wonderful, but you will have to check back to see the finished product. Keep an eye out we will have the pattern available soon. She is also working like mad on our Shop Hop quilt, here is a hint:

Sorry, we can’t show you any of the actual quilt until shop hop ! But it will be here before you know it, and we are like busy bees getting ready for it. We have had so much fun with themes in the past (especially our ruby red slippers and the yellow brick road) . We are super excited for this years fairy tale theme.

Sailboats

This is just a sneak peak at our sailboats baby quilt . We will have kits in about a week. Great for all of those boys coming this spring. Wait until you see the fabulous new “winter themed” quilt that Jeanette is working on. I want to post a preview, but I have got to sneak into her studio and get a picture first. It is our own pattern and is perfect for the “powder” lover in your life. It is already one of my all time favorites!
